The Library at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for the Associate Director of the Library position.

The position provides assistance to the Library Director in the leadership, development and operation of the Library, with primary responsibility for Information Literacy and Learning Programs, Library Customer Service, Collection Development, Digital Media Services, Scholarly Communication, and Marketing.

The incumbent advises the Library Director on the development of improved or additional services and assists with recruiting, supervising and developing library staff. The incumbent works closely with main campus counterparts on library initiatives and serves as Acting Library Director when needed.

Responsibilities:
Information Literacy and Learning (70%)

Meet with faculty in assigned subject areas to determine student information literacy needs, personal research needs, and course reserve materials
Develop, produce, and teach research strategies in classroom, one-on-one, and other settings; assist faculty in course development and delivery
Design and produce online library research guides and instructional materials
Develop and deliver library research strategies workshops
Provide instruction and guidance for librarian colleagues and library staff on new research resources
Mentor and support a team of instructional librarians in the development and delivery of information literacy and learning programs (in class, one-on-one, online) and instructional materials to allow students to become self-reliant researchers
Lead in development, inclusion and evaluation of assessment methods in information literacy and learning programs
Schedule and organize reference coverage at the Service Desk
Work scheduled hours at the Service Desk including some evenings, weekends, and holidays
Oversee the collection of course syllabi and identification of new courses
Collect and analyse reference and instruction statistics
Serve on library and institution-wide committees and task forces
Participate in professional committees and conferences at local, regional, and international levels
Engage in partnerships with academic support units to develop a service agenda that supports and encourages undergraduate student achievement and lifelong learning

Collection Development (15%)

Develop policies and procedures for selecting, managing and marketing library collections and content
Develop and maintain the library's collection development profiles for GOBI electronic notifications
Oversee the selection of new library materials and gifts
Coordinate the review of course syllabi to ensure all listed resources are available
Monitor library materials budget and prepare monthly collection development expenditure, usage and other statistical data as required
Evaluate and benchmark against leading library collections in international affairs and area studies

Digital Services (10%)

Initiate and plan for emerging technologies and innovative ways of providing resources and services
Manage the librarys media materials, digital devices & equipment
Supervise the development and maintenance of the library's website and other public relations services
Coordinate with Main Campus on GUQ's contributions to Digital Georgetown

Scholarly communication (5%)

Serve as a primary resource to faculty, students and staff on fair use and copyright
Educate faculty and students about impact factors, bibliometrics, altmetrics, and other emerging metrics trends through workshops, websites, consultations, etc.
Investigate and encourage the use of new and emerging methods of publishing

Qualifications:
Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent accreditation body.Additional graduate degree in a discipline area desirable
7+ years of academic library experience, in a variety of institutions, including a minimum of 3 years' experience supervising librarians
Significant experience with information literacy programs, library assessment, collection development and library promotion
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in budgetary planning and monitoring
Thorough knowledge of information literacy standards and development; experience with the American College and Research Libraries Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
Thorough knowledge of academic library collections and core collection building tools and resources
Thorough knowledge of publishing, scholarly communication, and copyright law
Record of professional participation and accomplishment
Superior oral and written communication skills
Sound knowledge of library systems (Alma preferred), vendor platforms, and the Springshare suite of products
International experience preferred
